About body psychotherapy

Our bodies hold our life stories

Body psychotherapy is a somatic therapy based on the fundamental principle that our emotional, mental and physical processes are always connected, and that our bodies hold our life stories. Through this form of therapy, you can begin to understand how past events may have shaped you, and how these experiences may still be influencing your body, thoughts, behaviours and choices today. It helps you to access your internal resilience and resources giving you the power now to shape your life the way you want moving forward.

What happens in a session?

The approach I use is known as biodynamic body psychotherapy. Biodynamic refers to the energy of life that is present in each of us. While talking is an important part of the process, Biodynamic body psychotherapy is often more embodied and energised than traditional forms of talking therapy.

Sessions may draw on a variety of techniques to explore your inner world. These include talking, imagery, breath work, body work, grounding exercises, body scanning, working with spatial awareness in the room, and following physical sensations connected to emotional experience. Biodynamic massage may also be offered, where appropriate and always with your full consent.

Biodynamic Body psychotherapy can help you get in touch with every aspect of yourself, so you become closer to and more expressive of who you truly are. Once you feel this, your body can become more alive, responsive and regulated. With the right support, you can gain relief from a variety of conditions including emotional and physical pain, lethargy, IBS, migraine, depression, anxiety and stress.

All of my work is trauma-informed and draws on current neuroscience research and practice. As a member of the Centre for Biodynamic Body Psychotherapy and UKCP, my practice is underpinned by appropriate training and closely supervised.
