What is biodynamic massage therapy?

Biodynamic massage is a form of massage therapy which benefits both the physical and mental aspects of our wellbeing. It supports the integration of all aspects of ourselves - physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual - within the context of our life and relationships. Biodynamic massage can be part of a body psychotherapy process, or a treatment in its own right.

Biodynamic massage is beneficial to a range of people including those with stress, IBS, muscle tension, migraines, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, a sluggish lymphatic system leading to low immunity, people who have experienced physical and emotional trauma, and those who wish to create a greater connection between mind and body.

Biodynamic massage was developed and brought to the U.K. by Gerda Boyesen, a psychologist, physiotherapist and analyst. The practice rests on certain theoretical ideas, namely that:

- People are energetic beings.
- People are more likely to achieve good health when energy is able to flow freely around the body.
- All people have the capacity to self-heal.
- Illness is a reflection of being out of harmony with oneself and one's surroundings.
- The past and the present may contribute to symptoms.

What happens in a session?

A biodynamic massage therapist is trained to use specialist techniques to bring about harmony in your body. Because each person is unique, no two sessions are exactly the same - each may be completely different. During a session, you may feel more integrated, and at one with your body. If you have muscle tension, it is likely to be eased. After the session you may feel a deep sense of calm and well being, and a sense of relief.

How can I book a biodynamic massage therapy session?

Each session is 60minutes and cost £60 per session. They take place in my therapy space in Clifton wood, Bristol. Although there is value in stand alone sessions, I recommend a minimum of 6 sessions to feel sustained shifts and changes. Please get in touch today if you would like to book a session.

“I felt very nurtured and also that Hannah picked up from me what I was needing at quite a deep level. I felt as though the needs that I hadn't even realised that I had, had been met.”
